The «Saint-Michel II» project

The «Saint-Michel II» building was launched in March 2005 in the presence of both its christeners, the writer Erik Orsenna of the 'Académie Française' and the journalist Béatrice Berge. It should last for four years and is officially supported by the 'Yacht Club de France' as well as a 'Comité d'Honneur' presided by Jean Verne himself, the writer's great-grandson. The main will of the association is certainly to rebuild the boat according to its orginal plans, but it also has to meet the current safety standards so as to be approuved for navigation towards various publics. The naval architect François Vivier, well-know in the traditional-boat-restoring world and as the 'Chasse-Marée' magazine cofounder, has been appointed by 'la Cale 2 l'île' to reconcile both these requirements. The building site could not be more attractive for it is facing the Jules Verne Museum, by the river Loire and in the heart of the city.

Under the leadership of both its shipwrights, the association leans on the benevolent work of its members as well as all its social and educational partners to make this ambitious heritage, technical and human project come true. You can follow the building progress ine the 'What's new?' heading.

«La Cale 2 l'île» welcomes any person willing to bring its human or financial support. Do not hesitate: come and join the 'Saint-Michel II' project dynamics!
